The Allspring Short-Term High Income Fund is an actively managed fixed income fund focused on generating a high level of current income alongside capital appreciation. Its mandate is to invest primarily in non-investment-grade (high-yield) corporate debt securities, including bonds and bank loans, with an average maturity of three years or less.
Under normal conditions the fund deploys at least 80 percent of its net assets in below investment-grade (junk) corporate debt, and may invest up to 25 percent of total assets in U.S. dollar-denominated debt issued by foreign companies. The credit quality focus is generally BB through CCC (or equivalent ratings), avoiding the weakest tier of high yield, and the investment process emphasizes bottom-up credit analysis, relative value assessment, sector and capital structure variation, and an investment horizon of roughly six months to anticipate market turns.
The fund is offered by Allspring Global Investments (through Allspring Funds Trust), structured as an ETF share class of an existing mutual fund. It is a U.S.-registered investment company. Its benchmarks include the ICE BofA 1-3 Year BB U.S. Cash Pay High Yield Index (strategy benchmark) and the Bloomberg U.S. Universal Bond Index (regulatory benchmark) for comparison, though the fund does not mechanically track either index.
