The Schwab International Bond ETF is a passively managed fixed income fund whose investment objective is to replicate, before fees and expenses, the total return of an index composed of international, non-US-dollar-denominated investment-grade debt securities. It tracks the ICE Global Broad Market Excluding-USD RIC Capped Free-Float Index (USD Hedged), which measures performance of investment-grade sovereign, quasi-sovereign, corporate, securitized, and collateralized bonds issued in global and eurobond markets outside the United States.
The fund's scope includes bonds from both developed and emerging markets in more than 40 countries. It uses forward and futures contracts to hedge currency exposure back to the US dollar, helping reduce foreign exchange risk in line with the index's USD-hedged construction.
The issuer is Charles Schwab Investment Management (Schwab Asset Management), and the fund is structured as an ETF registered in the United States.
