The Schroder Japan Equity Active UCITS ETF is an actively managed equity fund. Its objective is to deliver capital growth and income in excess of the MSCI Japan (Net Total Return) Index over a 3- to 5-year time horizon, after fees. It seeks this by investing predominantly in the equities and equity-related securities of Japanese companies, with at least two-thirds of its assets in a diversified portfolio from Japan, and by selecting stocks that exhibit value and/or quality characteristics such as earnings, dividends, cash flows (for value) and profitability, stability, financial strength and governance (for quality).
The scope of the fund is single-country, Japanese equities and related securities. It may invest in common and preferred stocks, equity-related securities such as depositary receipts and potentially real estate investment trusts or stapled securities, though the strategy typically avoids more exotic instruments like warrants, except when those arise through corporate actions.
The fund is part of the Schroder ETFs ICAV umbrella, managed by Schroder Investment Management (Europe) S.A., and is structured as a UCITS fund domiciled in Ireland. It benchmarks to MSCI Japan (Net Total Return) Index and aims for low benchmark relative risk while seeking incremental active returns (alpha) via its quantitative equity selection process.
